Inclusive leadership development- Deaf Community

Meet the U.S. Embassy in Namibia

In 2023 it supported DEI leadership programs, like the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), with over 90 participants in three different locations engaging in this evaluation.

The Challenge

The embassy sought a way to evaluate leadership potential across a diverse participant pool, including underrepresented communities such as the deaf community.
Traditional assessment methods usually fall short when providing an inclusive and equitable experience.

The Solution

WhomLab’s visual  assessment provided an inclusive platform where both deaf and non-deaf participants engaged equally.
The games focused on collaboration, decisionmaking, and problemsolving, fostering integration and leadership development.

The Process

90 participants in three  cities engaged in an interactive leadership assessment. The game sessions were supported by onsite staff while WhomLab facilitated the session online.
Candidates, a third of them from the deaf community, participated in various individual and team games.
Since our games are visual, participants could fully engage and collaborate together, regardless of their hearing ability.

The Results

  • Participants across all backgrounds, including the deaf community, found the assessment highly engaging.
  • Increased DEI in leadership awareness.
  • Strengthened leadership skills identification through objective evaluation criteria.
  • They had lots of fun and gained insights into their own leadership profiles.

Staff feedback

One of the most fun workshops ever.

Management feedback

Participants loved it, especially the deaf community. It proved a very efficient tool to highlight leadership and foster integration.
